Ear infections and Chiropractic

Ear infections and Chiropractic

Ear infections (commonly the middle ear) are often seen in babies and children under 6 year-old as their immunity is still developing.

It frequently presents after a cold and often resolves on its own. However, symptoms such as earache, headache, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite and more can be disabling for both the parents and the child.

How can we manage ear infections through Chiropractic care? Spinal manipulations are done to enhance the biomechanics of the spine and restore nerve activities that are responsible for mediating temperature and fluid level of the body.

Cervical adjustments also help drain away lymphatic build up in the head and neck region caused by muscle tightness. This will indirectly restore proper function of the Eustachian tube-which is heavily involved in the reoccurrence of middle ear infection, also known as Otitis Media. These adjustments are also helpful in building up the immunity of the child in the long run for optimal functioning of the body.

Even though antibiotics that serve to attack bacteria are commonly prescribed to treat ear infections, most cases of ear infections are actually caused by viruses.

Repetitive usage of antibiotic is also proven to contribute to future infections according to the Journal of the American Medical Association.

If you are interested in minimizing the intake of antibiotics of your little one for ear infections, try giving Chiropractic treatment a go here at Cranbourne Family Chiropractic and Wellness Centre.

We utilize gentle and low force approaches well suited for babies and kids that are just as effective.
